AVI, short for Audio Video Interleaved, is a media file that is capabale for storing digital video and audio data and is mainly used for the playback of video files. It was built my Microsoft and is supported on most major platforms, including Windows and macOS.
AVI is compressed and encoded using several codecs, such as DivX and XviD, and is capable of producing high quality video and audio. While the compression is fairly good, AVI files are usually larger in size when compared to other media formats and can be lossy in compression if not done properly.
